Jane Northcutt received her Illinois certification in 1976 and has the distinction of being the first machine shorthand reporter in Jefferson County. From 1978 to 1982 she became an official reporter for the Second Judicial Circuit and in 1982 became a freelance reporter with Jane McCorkle & Associates in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. In 1982, the agency purchased the first computerized aided transcription system in Southern Illinois. And in 1988, after Jane McCorkle took an official position in U.S. District Court in Benton, Jane became a solo freelance reporter.
Besides depositions and grand juries, Jane did per diem work in circuit court and, in 1993, began doing per diem work in federal court in Benton and East St. Louis as well, which the agency continues to do. She has had extensive experience working in conjunction with federal official reporters to provide realtime daily transcripts for several jury/bench trials, including the six-month capital murder trial of three members of the Aryian Brotherhood which took place in Benton in 2003-2004.
In 2003, as business began to expand, the business name changed to Northcutt Reporting Service but remains to be a sole proprietorship. Jane is a member of the Illinois Court Reporters Association, the National Court Reporters Association and the Society for the Technological Advancement of Reporting. Northcutt Reporting Service is also registered with Dun & Bradstreet, the Department of Defense System for Award Management and with the Illinois Department of Human Rights.
